The Breese American Legion Hall will be the site of a blood drive on Sept. 15, 2010. Donors may come from 2-7 pm. Giving blood saves lives.

City-Wide Garage sales

Oct. 1 and Oct 2, 2010 are the dates for the city-wide garage sales. These garage sales will be in conjunction with sales by all Breese merchants. We welcome you to come and browse through the community.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY

Aug. 19 is the 1st day of school in Breese. Increases in car and pedestrian traffic occur at all crossings. Please drive defensively. The couple of seconds you save by driving though a yellow light or pedestrian crossing is not worth an accident or injury.

OILING OF ROADS

Our Street Dept. will be oiling roads on Aug. 9 & 10, 2010. Signs will be posted on the streets to be oiled by Aug. 2, 2010. Cars need to be off the street or they may be towed at your expense. Do not drive through oil on streets as it will hurt the finish of your car.

BACK YARD SWIMMING POOLS

With the hot humid days of summer here I wish to remind all Breese residents that thier back yard pools need to have a fence around them. Each pool also needs a door with a lock located at least head high so small children can’t get into them without adult supervision. YOUR pool should be a place of summertime fun, NOT summer tragedy. If you see a problem, please call the Breese Police Dept. at 526-7226. Have a great time staying cool this summer.

Walnut and VossClare pedestrian light

This light will make it safer to cross Walnut Street. We still need parents(adults) to teach their children that it is best to make sure that traffic in all 3 lanes are stopped before crossing. Also, please stop at all crosswalks when you see people waiting. Nobody wants to live with that kind of accident.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Many seniors don’t take advantage of the Meals on Wheels program. It is not charity. You pay based on your income. It is a chance to socialize, play cards, converse with new friends, and get a well balanced meal. Call 526-2188 to find out about menus and times.
